CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO: Which Socket Does Your Car Use?

The charging standards used in Türkiye, which cars use which, and how to be sure before you drive to a station.

Three socket standards in Türkiye

The socket determines how fast and with what kind of current your car can charge. In practice you will meet three standards in Türkiye.

Type 2 (Mennekes) — AC charging

The IEC 62196 standard. Fitted to virtually every modern EV sold in Europe. Used for AC charging from 7.4 kW up to 22 kW. Home wallboxes and most mall and car-park stations use this socket.

CCS Combo 2 — DC fast charging

A Type 2 socket with two large DC pins added underneath — hence "combo". It is the de facto standard for DC fast charging in Europe and can carry from 50 kW to 350 kW.

CHAdeMO — DC, in decline

A Japanese standard, used by some Asian models such as the Nissan Leaf. It is being phased out of new cars in Europe, and most newly built stations now offer CCS only.

Which sockets do Checkpoint stations have?

StationSocketPower
DC fast chargingCCS Combo 2 (2 outputs)120–240 kW
AC chargingType 2 (IEC 62196)11–22 kW

To be clear: Checkpoint DC stations do not have a CHAdeMO socket. If your car requires CHAdeMO you cannot use DC fast charging on our network; you can still charge on AC using a Type 2 connection.

How to identify your car's socket

  • Look at the charge flap. Type 2 is round with seven pins. If there are two large round pins beneath it, that is CCS Combo 2.
  • Check the manual under "charging interface".
  • Your car may have two flaps — on some models AC and DC inlets sit in different places.

Who provides the cable?

At DC fast-charging stations the cable is attached to the unit; you do not need to carry one. Checkpoint DC units have a 5-metre cable on each output.

AC stations come in two kinds: tethered (cable attached) and untethered (socket only). For untethered units you need your own Type 2 cable — which is why keeping one in the boot is a good habit.

Our station map shows the socket type and power of every point.
